What we do — and what we don't.
On bifold doors we adjust and realign the panels, replace locks and handles, and replace the glass (misted, cracked or broken units). What we don't do is the worn internal running gear — worn rollers, damaged track, internal bifold hinges, running-gear shoot bolts or other mechanical running gear — or anything that means taking the door apart to get to it. That's a specialist job, and we'll point you in the right direction rather than start something that isn't ours to do.

What we help with on bifold doors

  • Adjustment & realignment — panels that have dropped, are catching or won't sit square brought back into line
  • Lock & handle replacement — a faulty bifold lock, keep or handle replaced
  • Glass replacement — misted, cracked or broken sealed units (see below)

Where we draw the line: if your doors have dropped or aren't sitting square, that's an adjustment we can make. But worn rollers, a damaged track or the internal running gear itself is a specialist job — we'll be straight with you about which it is and point you in the right direction rather than start a job that isn't ours to do.

Bifold problems — and whether it's a job for us

Bifolds have more moving parts than an ordinary door, so the honest answer depends on the fault. Here's what the common problems usually mean and who's best placed to put it right. Send us a few photos and we'll tell you honestly which it is before anything is agreed.

Problem you noticeWhat it usually meansWhat's usually needed
A panel has dropped, catches, or won't sit square The doors have come out of alignment — something we can adjust and reset. A job for us: single-leaf adjustment or full realignment, depending on how many panels need resetting. See pricing below.
Lock won't engage, or the handle is faulty A worn bifold lock, keep, or handle. A job for us — we replace bifold locks and handles, priced per job.
Misted, cracked, or broken glass A failed sealed unit or impact damage to a panel. A job for us — toughened, made-to-measure glass; see bifold door glass below.
Stiff, grinding, heavy to fold, or coming off its track Worn rollers, a damaged track, or the internal running gear. A bifold specialist job, not ours — we'll point you in the right direction rather than start it.
Worn internal bifold hinges or running-gear shoot bolts Mechanical parts that need the door stripped down to reach. Specialist work — we don't take bifolds apart to get at the running gear.
Thinking about replacing the whole set You'd prefer to replace rather than keep repairing. If the doors are beyond economic repair, or you want an upgrade, we can talk through new bifold options separately.

Not sure which yours is? Send us a few photos and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a job for us or one for a bifold specialist.

Bifold door glass replacement

Misted, cracked, or broken glass in a bifold panel can usually be replaced while keeping the existing door system — you don't need a whole new set of doors for a glass fault.

  • Misted bifold glass — a failed sealed unit (condensation between the panes) replaced like-for-like
  • Cracked or broken glass — impact-damaged panels made safe and replaced
  • Toughened sealed units — bifold glass normally needs to be toughened safety glass, and we quote it that way
  • Large, heavy units — bifold panels are big and heavy, so handling, survey and lead time matter
  • Matching the existing specification — we match the glass spec to the rest of the doors where possible

Because the units are large and made to measure, we usually check the size and specification on site before ordering, and we'll set out the lead time clearly. See also door glass replacement and our main glass replacement page.

Worth considering while the glass is out: solar-control glass and integral blinds

Bifolds have a large glazed area, which makes them strong candidates for two upgrades when the glass is being replaced anyway. Solar-control glass helps keep the room cooler and cuts glare on bright, south-facing aspects, while integral blinds sit sealed inside the unit for privacy and shade — with no cords and nothing to dust. Both are specified as part of the sealed unit, so they're straightforward to build in while we're replacing bifold glass. Just ask and we'll talk through whether they suit your doors.

What does it cost?

Bifold adjustment and realignment has set prices. A single leaf — usually the master (traffic) door that's dropped or catching — opened up and readjusted properly is £165 + VAT. A full realignment, where every leaf needs resetting, is £275 + VAT.

JobPrice (+ VAT)
Single leaf adjustment (e.g. the master door)£165
Full realignment (every leaf)£275

Locks, handles and glass are priced per job — bifold glass is made to measure, so we check the size and specification first. Send us a few photos, or let us take a quick look, and we'll give you a clear price before anything is agreed — see what photos to send.

Frequently asked questions

  • Sometimes the doors have simply dropped or come out of alignment, and that's something we can adjust and put right. If it's worn rollers, a damaged track or the internal running gear, that's a specialist job and we'll point you to the right person. We also replace bifold locks, handles and glass. Send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly which it is.

  • Yes. As well as repairing them — adjustment, realignment, locks, handles and glass — we supply and fit brand-new bifold doors. So whether you need an existing set sorted or a complete new set installed, we can help. Tell us what you're after and we'll talk you through the options and give you a price.

  • Yes. Bifold glass normally needs to be toughened safety glass, and the units are large and heavy, so we check the size and specification first and usually recommend a quick survey before ordering the made-to-measure unit. The door system stays; only the glass changes.

  • Bifold adjustment and realignment has set prices — £165 + VAT for a single leaf (usually the master door), or £275 + VAT for a full realignment of every leaf. Locks, handles and glass are priced per job. Send us photos or let us take a quick look, and we'll give you a clear price before any work is agreed.
