Obscure glass is fitted the same way as any sealed-unit replacement, with the frame staying in place. Prices start from £165 + VAT for a standard unit. Patterned and toughened units can cost a little more, and the exact price depends on the size, the pattern, and whether toughened glass is required — we confirm it after checking the size and pattern, before ordering anything.

• What's the difference between obscure, privacy, patterned and frosted glass?

  They're different words for much the same thing — glass you can't see clearly through. 'Obscure' and 'privacy' are the general terms; 'frosted' is the smooth, sandblasted look; 'patterned' glass has a texture moulded into it. They all provide privacy while still letting light through.

• Can you replace clear glass with obscure glass in an existing window?

  Yes. In most cases we replace the sealed unit only — the frame stays in place. We measure the existing unit, make a new obscure unit to size, and fit it. It's the same job as a misted-glass swap, just with privacy glass instead of clear.

• Is obscure glass available toughened for doors and low windows?

  Yes, and it's required there. Glass in doors, side panels and low-level windows must be toughened safety glass — we supply obscure glass toughened as standard in those positions.

• How private is obscure glass?
