Smashed or cracked door glass

Impact damage — accident, break-in attempt, or stray ball — needs dealing with quickly. A broken door panel is a security risk and a draught issue. We measure, order, and fit a new toughened panel as a priority. If the door is compromised while the glass is on order, we can advise on temporary boarding.

Misted or blown sealed units

A permanent cloudy or streaky appearance means the sealed unit's hermetic seal has failed. Moisture between the panes won't clear on its own and can't be resealed — the unit needs replacing. The door frame is unaffected; we replace the glass panel only.

Decorative or obscure glass panels

Many uPVC and composite doors have decorative lead-effect, frosted, or Georgian-bar panels. These can be matched and replaced when damaged. Lead-effect units are factory-made as a complete sealed unit — they're replaced whole, not repaired in situ.

How we replace door glass

The process is the same whether the glass is misted, smashed, or decorative:

• Measure up: We visit to measure the existing panel precisely. For most standard door sizes we can quote over the phone, but a site measure ensures accuracy.
• Order the unit: Glass panels are manufactured to the exact size. Lead time is typically 5–7 working days for standard panels; decorative or non-standard units may take a little longer.
• Fit and finish: We remove the old panel, fit the new toughened unit, refit the beading, and check the door operation. Most fitting appointments take 30–60 minutes.

The door frame stays — you're not paying for a new door, just new glass. From your initial call to a clear, secure door, most jobs are completed within 7–10 days.

What does it cost?

Door glass panels require toughened safety glass as standard, which costs slightly more than standard window glass. Decorative units cost more than plain panels due to the additional manufacturing step.

We agree the price before ordering anything. A full door replacement starts from £600 — replacing the glass only is far cheaper in almost every case where the frame is sound.

Do I need a new door?

Almost never — not for a glass-only problem. If the door frame and slab are sound, replacing the glass panel gives you a clear, sealed, secure result at a fraction of the cost of a new door. There's no reason to replace the whole thing when only the glass has failed.
