What we do — and what we don't

We replace glass in existing timber window and door frames. This includes broken panes, misted sealed units, and single glazing with traditional putty.

Important: We do not offer general timber window or door repair, timber frame restoration, or full timber window/door replacement. If the timber frame itself needs significant repair or replacement, that's specialist joinery work outside our scope. Our service covers glass replacement where the existing timber frame is still serviceable.

Common timber-frame glass jobs

  • Broken panes — single or double-glazed panes cracked or shattered within timber frames
  • Misted sealed units — double-glazed units that have failed in timber sash or casement windows
  • Single glazing replacement — traditional putty-glazed single panes in older timber windows
  • Door glass in timber frames — broken or misted glass panels in timber doors (toughened safety glass where required)

Glass-only replacement in timber frames

If the timber frame is in reasonable condition, replacing just the glass is a practical and cost-effective option. There's no need to replace the whole window just because a pane has failed — especially on older properties where the timber frames have character or conservation value.

For double-glazed units, we measure, order a replacement sealed unit, and fit it into the existing timber frame. For single-glazed panes, we remove the old glass and putty, fit a new pane, and re-putty to a clean finish.

Single glazing vs sealed units in timber frames

Many older Bristol homes — particularly Victorian and Edwardian properties — still have single-glazed timber windows. If a single pane breaks, we can replace it with a new single pane and traditional putty finish. If the frame has been upgraded to accept sealed double-glazed units, we can supply and fit a replacement sealed unit instead.
